In the Old Testament, the shofar often symbolizes the voice of God. And on the third day, when the morning had come, there began to thunder and lightning, and a thick cloud descended upon the mountain, and there was a loud sound of a trumpet, so that all the people that were in the camp trembled with fear. Then Moses led the people out of the camp against God, and they settled at the foot of the mountain. Exodus 19:16-18.
